Self-Reliance is the ability to provide the necessities of life for ourselves and our family members.
The SRS manager is to seek personal revelation and proactively:
- Focus on priorities of the First Presidency and Area Presidency
- Achieve self-reliance objectives as outlined in the Annual Area Self-Reliance Plan*
- Support Area Seventies, those with priesthood keys, and Stake Self-Reliance Committees
- Develop and share a network of resources that will bless members
These purposes are accomplished by:
- Proactively identifying challenges, raising issues, making recommendations for solutions and influencing priesthood leaders in support of self-reliance efforts in a designated geographic area.
- Providing logistical support and ensuring delivery of standard services including assessments, individualized mentoring, training, materials, and resources to stake self-reliance resource centers and groups.
- Cultivating relationships with senior business, educational, financial, government, and community leaders; coordinate with vocational/technical training and educational institutions; works with banks, micro credit, NGOs, and other financial institutions, all for the purpose of linking un/underemployed members to needed resources.
- Leading assigned full-time missionaries, church-service missionaries, and volunteers in supporting self-reliance efforts. Reports to the Area Self-Reliance Manager.
Domestic:
- 50-70%: Assisting priesthood leaders in implementing/maintaining the self-reliance initiative in their stake including: consulting with and receiving direction from the stake president on self-reliance goals and objectives and needs; training and supporting stake self-reliance committees, training and evaluating group facilitators, providing materials, training and support to stake self-reliance centers. Identifying specific resource development needs and building capability.
- 20-50%: Developing and cultivating contacts, relationships and community resources in response to stake needs in the service area. Ensure that stakes have access to the resources being developed. Maintain subject matter expertise in all relevant market needs, trends and available church resources in their area.
- 5-20%: Request, train and supervise full-time and church service missionaries specifically assigned to support the SRS Manager ensuring their full contribution.
- 5-10%: Administrative responsibilities including: regular progress reports on key indicators, expense reports and other administrative duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
International:
- Supports Stakes and Areas by addressing the complexity of country and language with the PEF Loan Activity and/or low degree of commercialization.
- 50%: Travels throughout the defined service area, developing and cultivating contacts and relationships of influence with employers, educational, self-employment and other community resources.
- 30%: Recruit, train and supervise Self-Reliance Center missionary and volunteer staff, ensuring the ongoing and successful delivery of all standard services. Provide ongoing technical training and support to ward and stake self-reliance specialists.
- 20%: Consult with and receive direction from local priesthood leaders on Self-Reliance issues relating to education, employment and self-employment.
- Regularly report progress to Area Self-Reliance Manager and Manager of Field Operations on states objectives to reach 50 % of target market of un/underemployed Church members and place 25% of target market into jobs or business start-ups.
- Maintain subject matter expertise on all relevant market needs and trends in order to reach stated objectives and results.
- Bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) in business, sales, marketing or related discipline.
- 5 years of professional/operational experience including demonstrated success working with middle and some upper level management.
- Requires close supervision. Makes recommendation and awaits approval to act.
- Intuitive ability to establish relationships of trust with senior Church, business, and community leaders and represent Self-Reliance Services with a high degree of professionalism.
- Executive presence, emotional maturity, and judgment in discerning client needs and providing tailored solutions. (using courage and tact)
- Experienced and effective trainer, facilitator, and communicator with the ability to train large groups of people and to develop others in a coaching/mentoring relationship.
- Church leadership experience including application and understanding of self-reliance principles and the ability to properly influence priesthood and Relief Society leaders.
- High level of analytical and creative skills, the ability to communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing and strong personal computer skills.
- Knowledge of local laws and government regulations as it pertains to employment law and is familiar with community and church resources available in the areas.
- Must be able to travel extensively and work in the mobile office
- Demonstrated ability to consistently produce results and work independently under minimal supervision.
